My hospital work gives me the great blessing of being able to work with extraordinary people...One such person is a physician by the name of Bill Stewart, MD. An ophthalmologic surgeon by trade, he now leads the Institute for Health and Healing - a center that combines the best of Western medicine with other modalities, including Eastern traditions. Once a month Bill comes to our management meetings and inspires us with his readings - usually learnings from great teachers. His goal is to provide us with some balance and thought-provoking ideas so that we can be better caregivers and leaders. Here is his most recent reflection:
"In order to know the future it is necessary to know the present in all its details, as well as to know the past. Today is what it is because yesterday was what it was. And if today is like yesterday, tomorrow will be like today. If you want tomorrow to be different, you must make today different. If today is simply a consequence of yesterday, tomorrow will be a consequence of today in exactly the same way..."

Alas! What powerful words to remind us to stop procrastinating about something we want to change, complaining about the present and expecting different results in the future! Thank you Bill...Carpe diem!
